Fallin Community Enterprises undertook a survey in 2012 within Fallin to look at the options and need for a new project.  Below is the Executive Summary from the findings report:

Executive Summary

Background

This Feasibility Study has been prepared by Community Enterprise on behalf of the Board of Fallin Community Enterprises. The work was commissioned to consider options for a new project which will focus on Fallin Community Enterprise‟s core aim of helping to regenerate the economy, environment and social fabric of Fallin.

This report sets out the findings of the research undertaken, an appraisal of each of the options considered and concludes with recommendations for the Board‟s consideration. The option(s) chosen by the Board will form the basis of the business plan for the new project.

The Organisation

Fallin Community Enterprises (FCE) is a social enterprise and a charity, established in July 2005. The organisation evolved from the Fallin Futures Community group with the aim of driving forward the social, economic and environmental regeneration of the village. It was set up to look at community recycling projects and rejected other options in favour of bicycle recycling. It set up the Recyke-a-bike project in Fallin to provide training and employment through recycling and refurbishment of bikes. This project has proved so successful that it has had to move to larger premises in Stirling to accommodate its growth.

The Board wants to ensure the continued success of the Recyke-a-bike project but is also keen to focus some of its attention on its roots in Fallin and develop a second project to help to regenerate Fallin and create employment, training and volunteering opportunities for local people.

Community Enterprise was commissioned to look at the feasibility of a number of ideas for a practical community services project. This project is based on the concept that local people should take more ownership of the services provided for them and that these services should provide community benefit.

The initial brief outlined the scope of the new service as:

developing a local community based service for the inhabitants of Fallin and the Eastern Villages

providing employment and training opportunities within Fallin and beyond

making the area a place where the local community has an impact upon its own environment.

The services and tasks performed could include communal grass cutting in the Eastern Villages, gardening services for individuals, fencing and other joinery tasks, painting and decorating. The brief also asked for consideration of paint recycling and indicated that the Board is open to any other options that fulfil the dual aims of reducing waste and providing local employment and training opportunities.
